the golden girls of rock and roll

Being on the road with your favorite band is pretty much the dream of every teenage girl whose life revolves around music, and while I have yet to meet people who have done exactly so in the 21st century, a quick throwback to the seventies can remind you that it's been done before. Take a look at Lori Maddox, Sable Starr, and Pamela des Barres who by strutting through the streets of Sunset Boulevard in their shiny platform heels, turned the heads of numerous rockstars with their youthful beauty. Though barely legal, they still managed to take and break the hearts of some of the biggest names in popular music. There is absolutely no denying that not only were they some of the first art-scene queens in the history of youth culture, but were the golden girls of rock and roll.

ukraine's fashion folklore and bohemia

Bohemian elements from the seventies seemed to be the center of street style in 2015. However, contrary to what most people know about the origins of bohemian fashion, the embroidered blouses and dresses hold a deeper meaning to people living in Eastern Europe, more specifically in Ukraine, where it is regarded as one of the country's most important national garments.

Cherry lip balm will always symbolize the start
It stained your lips and feathered around the rest of your mouth
Stained your fingertips, too
And the scent lingered
Too sweet for anyone to truly be enamored with it
But I was easily led by the promise of sweetness

An unwinding of truths. A long fall to the bottom where we first stood not knowing what to say to each other.

I can see through your eyes that you do not recognize what I’ve become.
This I do not mind.

I want to change, to grow, to be larger than the small self I’ve tucked myself away in.
I am bored of the still waters.
I am bored of the silence.

I did it for you.
Covered myself up in the images you had of who I was through your eyes.
Who you wanted me to be.
Too long.
Too long have I been smiling softly, talking softly, living softly.

I want to drape myself in laughter and lipstick stains and black crushed velvet.
I want to be sleek, and lovely, and dangerous.

are you a feminist or a "feminazi"?

Yes, I know. This is an extremely controversial topic. But I think that it’s important to talk about it, because it’s going to affect all of us whether you identify yourself as a feminist or not. Before I discuss whether or not modern feminism actually aims to achieve its goal, or if it is an excuse for women to view themselves superior to men and vilify them ‘in the name of feminism’, let’s actually look at what true feminism is. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary feminism is “the theory of political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." This means that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, and that they should not be judged based on their sex, but on their actions and who they are as a person.
